Music and Art Night

Enjoy singing these songs through the summer.
3rd Grade Music and Art Night

            Welcome to 3rd grade music!

In third grade students will continue to develop their repertoire of folk, seasonal, multicultural and patriotic songs; their technique in playing the barred instruments. In third grade students will also begin to recognize and identify visual representation of rhythm, melody and form. Students will achieve these objectives through moving, singing, speaking, playing, and notating. I look forward to a fun and exciting year!

Happy New Year!

After 4 months of lessons, third grade students should:
  • understand classroom procedures and know what behaviors are expected.
  • identify whole note, whole rest, and dotted half note.
  • have had opportunities to improvise rhythmically within four beats.
  • recognize the placement of So, La, Mi, Re, and Do on a five-line staff.
  • identify high Do.
  • demonstrate correct mallet technique including the crossover bordun.
  • identify and perform ostinati (speaking, singing, moving, and playing).
  • distinguish between Major and minor.
  • identify interlude within elemental forms.
  • identify and demonstrate crescendo and decrescendo.
  • recognize members of the orchestral string family.
  • continue to work in small groups, demonstrating simple problem solving techniques.

Although the above skills may not yet be fully mastered, upcoming lessons will continue to reinforce them.  The next few months are significant as third grade students will be introduced to sixteenth notes, explore Question-Answer technique of rhythmic improvisation, identify low La, in relationship to minor pentatonic, perform two-part, three-part, and four-part rounds, explore rondo form, recognize members of the orchestral percussion family, and continue to work with partners and independently in small groups.

In November Students will...
  • Identify and perform a dotted half note.
  • Demonstrate conducting in 3.
  • Identify and perform High Do.
  • Identify an interlude.
